PART I - The Red Carpet:
Let’s start with the hosts. Guiliana Rancic – loved the color and pattern but it was just too much dress. That said, when she was sitting, it looked marvelous. Kelly Osbourne – Beautiful silhouette but am I wrong…hasn’t she done something similar before? Hair was a bit too poufy too.
Jennifer Lawrence – Her dress, despite all the praise from Guiliana and Kelly, looked like a Baywatch bathing suit to me. It was cut low under the arms like a swimsuit too.
Hailee Steinfeld – Looked like a teen princess. So cool that she helped design her dress too. Loved the headband! She came across as the definition of good taste.
Florence Welch – I can’t take a singer seriously at the Oscars.
Michelle Williams – I love, love, love her hair. I think the makeup would have been more exciting with red lips. Liked the dress but didn’t love it. I think she suffers from serious understatement.
Mila Kunis – what can I say? She has absolutely ROCKED this awards season. The color, the fluidity, and the ease with which she moved in the dress were perfect. Her hair was beautiful and I loved the jewelry. I think she’s created a new standard for style. I'm sorry if I sound like a broken record but yes, she's my pick for BEST DRESSED again!
Amy Adams – I’m sorry…it looked like a dress for a much older woman. And what was with the jewelry???
Mandy Moore – See comment above about Florence Welch. It was nice to see her looking like a woman instead of a teenager for a change.
Russell Brand – He freaked me out at the Grammys and he freaked me out here.
Anne Hathaway – Gorgeous. True Hollywood style. Bravo.
Jennifer Hudson – Hated the color. It was nice to see her boobs not as hemmed in as at the Grammys. I have to agree with Guiliana and Kelly; it did not look like a Versace dress. Way too glamorous.
Zack Levy – The man can wear a tux.
Cate Blanchett – Cate…I love you, you’re so stylish but not sure I got the dress. It looked a little Space Odyssey to me. The yellow shoulders threw me. Not sure why the “E!” ladies raved so much about it.
Scarlett Johannson – Recently divorced and it shows. Bags under her eyes, disheveled hair, and a strange dress. Did not like it at all.
Melissa Leo – She rocked the Globes, came down a peg for the SAGs, and totally blew it here. Her dress looked like a wrinkled crocheted table runner.
Hillary Swank - So sorry she did so much androgynous work...she'll always look like a guy to me.
Helena Bonham Carter – I said it before, I love her. I’m probably as obsessed with her as Kelly Osbourne is. I know she’s quirky and unconventional but she has been incredible on the red carpet in the past (witness below). But for now…she’s who she is. Love her or hate her.
But this year, I have to give her the WORST DRESSED label...as much as it kills me.Why does Celine Dion even show up. She has a perfect model’s body but for the love of God she cannot dress. I thought it was so boring. But I have to admit it's a huge improvement over past performances.
Sandra Bullock – thank you for channeling Grace Kelly. She looked beautiful. Just wish she had some sparkly things around her neck.
Helen Mirren – That woman can really dress. She’s one of only a few that really dress age appropriate. So very lovely.
Gwyneth Paltrow – Loved her dress and hair and jewelry. She looked like the wife of a rock star! So close to being my pick for BEST DRESSED.
Penelope Cruz - Kudos for showing up so soon after having a baby. Pretty dress...she looked beautiful. I'll spare her the scrutiny though.
Sharon Stone – Looked like a blond Morticia to me.
Natalie Portman – I cannot imagine the stress of the awards season and being pregnant. She’s a beautiful woman and a wonderful actress. Dress just wasn’t doing it for me.
Nicole Kidman - Lovely but kind of dull.
Reese Witherspoon - Wow. Lovely and oh so classic!
PART II - The Show:
Not sure why James Franco was the co-host. Anne seemed a natural but he looked at the tele-promptor as if his life depended on it. Probably not a good idea to have a host that's also nominated. Loved the shout-out to mom and grandma.
Kirk Douglas as a presenter. Who'da thunk. But he was hilarious. Loved that Justin Timberlake picked up on the "You know" line.
Melissa Leo's hair looked as if it was coming down when she accepted her award. And what a rambling speech...
Mila Kunis - I loved the dress on the carpet and kept on loving it. And what a hunk Justin Timberlake is in a tux (but I still think Zack Levy killed for the men).
Am I the only on that hates the "hurry up and get done" music? So rude!
What was up with James Brolin and Javier Bardem presenting in white tuxes??? Weird.
Wow! Anne Hathaway can sing. I had no idea. Okay, James Franco had a funny moment when he dressed in a dress.
Russell Brand and Helen Mirren...funny, funny bit. And I thought Russell was weird. He made me laugh. Maybe that's what Katy Perry sees in him.
All of the foreign film nominations sounded wonderful. Note to self - rent them!
I hate Christian Bale's real accent...good thing my satellite froze for a couple seconds and I missed some of his acceptance speech. I did catch his shout out to his daughter..."To my wonderful daughter who's taught me so much more than I'll ever teach her."
Nicole's dress started growing on me during the show. Maybe if it didn't have the kimono wings.
Scarlett and Matthew...was she clinging on for dear life or what? She looks good in the dress, just don't really like it. And her hair?
Marisa Tomei - I'll never get used to her being introduced as an Oscar winner.
Cate Blanchett - still hate the dress but boy does she have poise.
The chick who won for Costume Design took almost as long to get to the stage as Betty White did at the SAGs.
Mandy Moore - why did she change out of her carpet dress? I was hoping to see it again. I had no idea Zack Levy could sing...
I wonder if Reese and Jake ran into one another backstage.
When the Short Subject winners started for the stage we almost got a fall...but she saved it at the last minute. Damn.
The acceptee with the afro had the best line..."Should have gotten a haircut." He had another when he thanked his mom and mentioned she provided the Craft Services on his movie set. And also had the best shout out to a significant other when he thanked her for making his life a dream come true.
Orange dress on Florence Welch was better than what she wore on the carpet but redheads should not wear orange.
Really...Halle Berry made the tribute to Lena Horne? Surely there's a REAL actress of color out there.
Annette Benning - she bothered me at the SAGs but I couldn't figure out why. I get it now...her head is out of proportion with her body. She's a BOBBLEHEAD!
Loved both the Best Actress and Best Actor set-ups. Good job Jeff and Sandy.
Loved when Natalie Portman thanked her parents for giving her life.
Colin Firth - perfect British self-deprecating speech.
Best picture - The King's Speech. Rightfully so. You have to remember the voting members are older and might not have absorbed The Social Network's message. That said, the future is always before us and unknown. The present is what we deal with every day. The past (The King's Speech) is what we learn from. So important. Bravo.
And finally...Anne Hathaway's wardrobe changes were awesome!
The morning after, some are saying the Oscars were terrible. I wouldn't say that. Anne did a great job.
