Welcome...

I will talk about anything and everything here. You'll probably realize though pretty quickly that I'm somewhat obsessed with cooking and entertaining...but I do have other interests.

Po'Boys and Socialism

Last night I went to a sorority meeting in Slidell. Another sister drove me there. She doesn’t do interstates so we went a back way…through Pearl River. Although it was dark, I spotted what looked like a promising po’boy place, Wishbones.  Derron and I took a drive there this morning. We were not disappointed. The roast beef po’boys were heavy on the gravy and mayo and SLOPPY! I went through about 20 napkins and 3 paper towels. Now that’s some good po’boys!

On the way back we spotted about 90 Baptist churches. I have nothing against Baptists, just found it odd that there were so many in such a predominantly Catholic area. It started to feel a little hellfire and brimstone for my taste. But we had a nice drive so I decided when I got home I’d search the internet for consignment shops in the area. While doing so, I came across this page: http://www.meetup.com/Northshore912/.

“The Northshore 9-12 group is made up of Glenn Beck fans and others who love our country and believe in it's (sic) greatness. We are a non-violent, non-racist, non-political group.” Really, non-political…and you do know Glenn Beck is an entertainer and not a politician, leader, or Constitutionalist, right?

I’m not saying these folks are wackos…I think their rhetoric speaks for itself. Of particular note, “…it was great to be with like-minded people again”…you’ll remember my comment the other day about “people are intentionally filtering the information they consume through sources they agree with, or are turning instead to entertainment and idle-time activities, becoming less informed. (NPR)". I rest my case.

Also this quote, “We have a core group of sincere, dedicated patriots. Wish we could clone them all!!” Clone them all huh? Nothing like homogeneity. Diversity be damned.

And there’s more, “I am from the Picayune MS teaparty group. Y'all seem to be very organized and informed.” Who uses “y’all” when writing?

From Kathy, “I am a Christain (sic) American and I refuse be silent anymore. We must peacfully (sic) join hands and work together for Quality Change. I believe we 'can' have our good ole` USA back with determined, pationate (sic), and diligent hard work. We must not be afraid, weak, or lazy. Now is the time to join hands and work together. Peace.” Kathy – go back to school and learn how to spell.

This from Edward, “Anytime a group can organize and get together to discuss our country's future, it is important for as many as possible to attend.” Couldn’t agree with you more Edward. Point being…diverse opinions people! Listen to ALL points of view.

And finally from Shawn: “It is one of our few chances of survivial (sic). Anyone who has studied history will see the similarities to 1930's Germany with the current socialist control in the Senate, House, Executive Branch, Judicial Branch, and 90% media control.” Really, the government controls the media? I thought corporations did. What was I thinking? And I love when people throw that “socialist” stuff around. Can any of these people define socialism?

Socialism, noun: A political system of communal ownership - a political theory or system in which the means of production and distribution are controlled by the people and operated according to equity and fairness rather than market principles.

When did fear of the unknown or ignorance become the same thing as socialism?

Humor and jabbing aside, I wholeheartedly agree that it behooves each and every citizen of this country to read and understand the Constitution. I also believe you should hold your Representatives and Senators accountable. We elect them to represent us…not themselves or special interests groups. But name-calling, fear-mongering (I’m talking to you Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh), and general divisiveness (us versus them, or like-minded groups) do nothing toward making this country great.
